Richard Nageotte had over 50 years experience as a trial attorney in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He was rated AV by a national attorney rating company, the highest rating for both legal ability and ethical standards based on the confidential opinions of other lawyers and judges. He practiced trial law in cases involving accidents that result in injury or death, medical malpractice, real estate law, commercial law and other civil litigation matters. He formed numerous corporations, limited liability companies and other legal entities and represented them after they were formed.
Richard Nageotte was licensed as an attorney in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1967. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court on May 3, 1991. He was certified as Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy on November 10, 1987.
The Virginia State Bar does not recognize legal specialties in the Commonwealth of Virginia; he represented clients in the General District Courts and Circuit Courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia and before the Virginia Supreme Court. He represented clients before the United States Court of Claims, United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia (Alexandria, Richmond and Norfolk Divisions) and Appeals to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He successfully represented his client in the case of Tull v. United States, where he obtained a unanimous decision of the United States Supreme Court that a defendant in a case where the federal government seeks substantial civil penalties is entitled by the Seventh Amendment of the Constitution of the United States to a jury trial.
Richard Nageotte was a member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and Fredericksburg Area Bar Association. He was a former member of the Board of Governors of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and past president of the Prince William Bar Association. He was a graduate of the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York, with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration and the Washington College of Law of American University in Washington, D,C., with a Juris Doctorate Degree in law on January 14, 1966.
Richard Nageotte was a retired Commander in the United States Naval Air Reserve serving a total of 26 years of active and reserve duty.
YVETTE NAGEOTTE has over 25 years experience as a real estate and trial attorney in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She practices in the area of domestic relations, to include, divorce, child custody, visitation, child support, spousal support and property division under the equitable distribution statute. She also represents clients in the drafting and negotiation of pre-marital agreements and separation and property settlement agreements, adoptions, guardianship, name changes, suits to partition, preparation of deeds, wills, powers of attorney and living wills and general litigation.
